WHO WE ARE

The Sanilac County Animal Control Shelter is dedicated to the welfare of the animals in Sanilac County. The Sanilac County Animal Control & Shelter is a governmental agency and is funded with tax dollars. Many tasks of our animal control is, but not limited to....

1. Investigating animal cruelty.
2. Picking up stray and unwanted animals for the safety of the animals and citizens.
3. Housing and caring for stray and unwanted animals at the shelter.
4. Promoting the adoption of animals to caring and responsible pet owners.
5. Enforcing leash laws and other state animal control laws.
6. Providing the humane euthanasia/disposal of unwanted stray animals.
7. Advocating the spay and neuter of all pets due to the overwhelming amount of homeless animals.
8. Educating the public about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
9. Assisting owners of lost pets.
10. Assisting owners of pets that they can no longer keep.

The Sanilac County Animal Shelter is located in a very rural area and only consists of 14 dog kennels and 6 cat cages. Although we try very hard, not all of our animals are placed and unfortunately have to be humanely euthanized due to limited space and funding. Two full time animal control officers are employed at Sanilac County Animal Control.

ADOPTING A FRIEND

Please note that many of our pets have come in as strays, so we do not know any backround or history on them. If you are interested in adopting a pet on our site, please email us ( scac55@yahoo.com ) for an adoption application. The adoption application is required before you can adopt a pet. This is for you and your family’s benefit and our pets’ benefit. The application tells us about the applicant and helps guide us in placing the correct animal in the right forever home. Once a COMPLETED application is received, a representative of SCACS will review your application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. SCACS reserves the right to refuse an application. By filling out an application, you are not obligated to adopt an animal from us and you are not guaranteed one of ours. Please also be aware that it normally takes 1-10 days to process an application.

ADOPTION FEES

Dogs & Puppies are $60.00. Cats & Kittens are $50.00. All adopted pets must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption by law. Once altered you are refunded $30.00.

PLEASE SPAY & NEUTER ALL OF YOUR PETS!

Millions of pets (even purebreds!) die each year because of the countless number of animals brought into shelters everyday. There's just not enough homes to go around for everyone.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST FOR ANY DOG. Both the owner and dog will live a happier life. Training also helps in case of accidents when your dog may get loose. Basically and most importantly, proper training can prevent a lot of mishaps with your animals.
